Coach Scott Long Announces Retirement After Legendary Tennis Career at Centerville
Centerville High School Athletics celebrates the incredible career of Coach Scott Long, who is retiring after decades of excellence leading Elk tennis.
Coach Long built one of the most successful programs in Ohio, coaching 33 years of boys tennis—including 30 seasons at Centerville—and 27 years of girls tennis, all spent at CHS. His impact extends far beyond wins and trophies, shaping generations of student-athletes through consistency, leadership, and championship standards.
Over his career, Coach Long compiled an astounding 921–260 overall record, including a 490–145 record in Boys Tennis (BTN) and 431–115 in Girls Tennis (GTN). Under his guidance, Centerville tennis became a perennial conference powerhouse, earning 21 conference titles on the boys side and 15 conference titles with the girls program.
Coach Long’s teams also reached the highest level of achievement in the state, capturing three state championships—one in Boys Singles and two in Girls Doubles—cementing his legacy among the elite coaches in Ohio tennis.
Centerville High School Athletics and the entire Elk community thank Coach Long for his years of dedication, excellence, and leadership. His influence on the program and the student-athletes he coached will continue to be felt for years to come.
