On Saturday, the Lady Elks Varsity hosted the Dublin Coffman Shamrocks in the second game of their season. The Elks came out strong, dominating possession in the first half and shutting down the few offensive opportunities by the Shamrocks. After two near goals, the Elks found the back of the net in the nineteenth minute when Molly Wiedemann shot the ball into the net off a pass by Sophia Taylor. Seventeen seconds later, the Elks would score again when Audi Rhyner passed the ball to Savannah Conner who hammered the ball through the goal keeper’s hands. In the second half, the Shamrocks came out aggressive looking to score. Possession shifted and the Elks defense, lead by senior Charlotte Kunst, faced a lot of pressure. After a near goal that bounced off the side bar, Emma Gramke had a great save against a breakaway Shamrock. Gramke would have several other critical saves and together the Elks maintained the shutout and won the game 2-0.
The varsity team will play Troy at home on 8/22 at 7:15 PM.
The Lady Elks JVA team controlled possession but fell short on the scoreboard in their 1-0 loss on Saturday to the Dublin Coffman Shamrocks.
