The Varsity Lady Elks were back in action Monday night as they hosted Troy. The Varsity started off the game possessing the ball, but the strong defensive play by the Trojans shut down opportunities. With 17 minutes left in the half, a free kick by Cami Staudt was capitalized on by freshman, Sammi Aydelott, for the first Elk goal of the night. Five minutes later, Sammi would serve up the ball to Leona Ciarlariello who one touched it into the net. A hard foul on Sammi Aydelott would send her to the PK line where she calmly put the ball away for her second goal and a 3-0 halftime lead. In the 2nd half, Troy came out more aggressive, but new keeper Leena Cornwell and strong defensive play lead by seniors Kunst, Robillard, Weller, and J. Wiedemann would keep the Trojans from scoring. With less than ten minutes to go, the Elks would score their last goal when Alexia Peterson laid off a ball to Molly Wiedemann to make the final score 4-0. Emma Gramke and Leena Cornwell are credited with the shut out and the Elks have yet to give up a goal! The Varsity travels to Walsh Jesuit in Cuyahoga falls on Saturday at 3:00 PM for a Varsity only game. Tickets are available online at walshjesuit.org/athletics/athletic-tickets

The Lady Elks JVA came out in dominant fashion to defeat the Troy Lady Trojans 9-0. Five minutes into play Ella Boettcher nailed a 30-yard shot over Troy goalkeeper to put the Elks up 1-0 early in the match. The game remained 1-0 for the next 18 minutes while the Lady Elks took six more shots without a goal. With less than 14 minutes remaining in the half, Centerville capitalized on a free kick wide of the 18-yard box. Peyton Speakes, Kayla McCall-Williams, and Ella Boettcher combined to drive & deflect a pass across the penalty box, and Lucy Trout stepped in to bury it in the far corner for goal two. With 4 minutes left to play, Amelia Davis was fouled outside the box to give the Lady Elks one final free kick before half time. Maya Mercado lobbed a beautiful ball toward the back post and Skylar Falkner finished a perfectly timed header to end the half at 3-0.

Two minutes into the second half, Ella Boettcher and Peyton Speakes combined for a short corner play that was deflected by Jilly Wisecup to the far post and finished by Amelia Davis for goal four. A few minutes later, the Elk’s Ella Boettcher drove a corner kick near the penalty spot where Skylar Falkner’s one-touch finish was goal five. Only two minutes later, the Elks were back in position for another corner. Ella Stevens served the ball toward the far post where Khloe Isaacs and Lucy Trout connected for goal six. Troy’s first and only solid attempt on the Lady Elks’ goal came 15 minutes into the half, but goalkeeper Morgan Franklin’s quick response to shut down the breakaway maintained Centerville’s shutout. In rapid response, Anna Kate Robillard drove a Lady Elk’s corner kick into the box where Samantha Touhey fought the crowd for goal seven. With 14 minutes left, Amelia Davis was fouled in the box, and Katie Gearhart stepped up to bury the PK for goal eight. In the final two minutes, Maya Mercado and Amelia Davis combined for a through ball to Kayla McCall-Williams that she finished toward the far post for goal nine.

The Lady Elks JVA is back in action on August 29th at 5:30 pm at Legacy Field against Lakota East and the Varsity will play right after.
