The Varsity Football team took to the field on Friday night in front of a huge home crowd on a night when we were celebrating the youth of Centerville . The team gave all the young players in attendance some great examples to look up to as the Elks dominated the play on the field.

The Elks took the opening kickoff and put together a great drive and senior Emable Wakilongo ran it in from 6 yards out for a 7-0 Elk lead with 6:52 left in the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter the Elks defense continued to play fast and furious as the Shamrocks could not move the ball and the Elks exploded for 20 points. Junior QB Drake Wells ran it in from 5 yards out to put the Elks up 13-0 after the PAT was blocked with 7:24 left in the 2nd quarter. Then senior defensive lineman Cameron Gay took a fumble by Dublin Coffman's QB right out of the air and rumbled and stumbled for 87 yards as the entire defense helped to escort him into the end zone for a defensive touchdown and the rout was on. Elks led 20-0 with 4:07 left in the half. With 54 seconds to go in the 1st half Wells hit senior WR Sean Cole for a 21 yard TD catch that made the score 27-0 at the half.

Coffman came out in the second half and battled back by making plays on offense and with the help of some costly penalties the Shamrocks cut the lead to 27-14 heading into the 4th quarter as the Elks offense was held scoreless in the 3rd quarter. The Elks responded and the offensive line took over as did Emable Wakilongo as he broke loose for a 58 yard and 30 yard TD run to make it 41-14 with 3:18 left in the game. All-purpose do it all senior Nic Bruder got into the scoring column by returning a punt 42 yards for a TD to make it 48-14 Elks with 1:33 left in the game.

The final was Centerville 48-14 over Dublin Coffman. The Elks were led by an aggressive defense, an offensive line that got after it, Emable Wakilongo who rushed 23 times for 173 yards and 3 TD's and Drake Wells who threw for 160 yards along with throwing for a TD and running for a TD. Overall a great night for the Elks who are now 2-0 on the season and welcome Gahanna Lincoln to town next Friday for a 7 pm kickoff.
