The Elks welcomes and extremely talented Gahanna Lincoln football team to Centerville Stadium on Friday night in front of a great home crowd led once again by the Herd. I have to give a shoutout to our students who have really shown up for both home games.
Great teams find a way to win games that if you only look at the stats they would tell another story. The Elks only had 7 first downs to 20 for Gahanna. The Elks had 47 total rush yards to 310 for Gahanna. The Elks uncharacteristically missed 2 field goals along with 3 turnovers. The Defense came to play and just kept bending but never breaking.
Nic Bruder picked off a Gahanna pass and returned it 21 yards for the only Elk touchdown of the night to put the Elks up 7-0 with 3:20 left in the 1st quarter. Seth Alejandrino picked off a Gahanna pass late in the 1st quarter that allowed the Elks to drive down for a 27 yard Jackson Courville field goal for a 10-0 Elk lead with 10:03 left in the 2nd quarter. The Elks took a 10-0 lead into the half.
Both defenses took over the game in the 2nd half and the Elks had 2 goal line stands to deny Gahanna points. Great teams find a way and rely on each other and trust in each other. This Elk team showed great grit last night, that was a very good Gahanna team that the Elks beat last night.
Elks are 3-0 heading into GWOC play and are back in action next Friday at Miamisburg for a 7 pm kickoff for their GWOC opener.
