The varsity boys soccer team traveled to Fairmont on Tuesday night to play a soccer game with wind conditions that were definitely game changing. Both teams had to manage the wind all night. The Firebirds came out and played the Elks really tough and had some very good scoring opportunities but the Elks were able to hold them off and Alex Bucher was able to knock in a goal for the Elks late in the 1st half to give the Elks the lead going into the half.

In the second half the Elks dominated possession but were going into the wind which made attacks on the goal a little more difficult. Fairmont did not get many shots of in the 2nd half but did manage to hit the top crossbar as the Elks avoided the Firebirds tying the game. Collin Wickenheiser was able to bang in a 2nd goal for the Elks to put the team up 2-0 late in the 2nd half. Fairmont got a PK with under 2 minutes in the game but Luke Shrivers was able to save the PK and the Elks got out of there with a 2-0 win. The varsity is now 10-1 overall and 5-0 in the GWOC.

The JVA team beat Fairmont 3-1. The teams are back in action on Saturday at Alumni Stadium as the JVB team plays St. Xavier at 4 pm, JVA plays Lakota East at 5:30 pm and the Varsity will play Lakota East at 7:15 pm. It is Alumni night for the Boys Soccer program so all former players will get in for free and will be honored at halftime of the game. There will also be a quick Alumni game right after the Lakota East game. Tickets are available for these games online only at
