The varsity football team hosted the Springfield Wildcats on Friday night and the Elks ran into a team beginning to hit their stride. Springfield had almost 500 yards of offense as the Elks could just not slow down the speed of Springfield. The Elks lost 10-38.

Springfield jumped to a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and then in the 2nd quarter defense stood strong as the Elks fumbled at their own 21 yard line and the Elks defense was able to hold the Wildcats to a FG and found themselves down 0-17. The Elks were able to put together a drive late in the first half and Jackson Courville hit a 41 yard FG to bring the Elks to within 3-17 with 1:12 to go in the half. However, the Elks kicked the following kickoff out of bounds and Springfield took over at their own 35 yard line and in under 50 seconds went 65 yards with no timeouts to score to make it 24-3 Wildcats at the half.

Springfield would stretch that lead to 31-3 until Braylon Newcomb broke free for a 51 yard TD run for the Elks to make it 10-31. Springfield added another TD for the 10-38 final. The Elks are now 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the GWOC. It does not get any easier for the Elks next week as the Elks travel to Fairmont to take on a Firebird team that has beaten Springfield, Miamisburg and Wayne the last 3 weeks and are also currently 6-2. The GWOC is loaded this year with talented teams, including the Elks! Let's get back to it boys!
