The varsity girls basketball team hosted Fairmont on Wednesday night and hats off to the Firebirds who came in ready to play and in the first half took it to us with an aggressive offensive game at the rim, timely shooting and tenacious defense. The Firebirds led the Lady Elks 26-24 at the half.

Coach Priefer and his staff must have had a very spirited conversation at halftime as the Lady Elks came out and dominated the second half. The aggressive and hustling play that has become synonymous with Lady Elk basketball was on full display in the 2nd half as our ladies took control of this GWOC match.

The Lady Elks started making shots, getting to the loose balls and defending the basket and took a 42-37 lead into the 4th quarter and then outscored the Firebirds 23-9 in that final period. The Lady Elks depth was once again a factor in this impressive win.

Carline McDowell had 20 points to lead the Lady Elks. Anna Grim added 15 points and Emily Grim chipped in with 12 points. Anna was in foul trouble in the first half and that contributed to the struggles for the Elks in the first half.

The Lady Elks are now 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the GWOC. The Lady Elks are back in action this Saturday at Springboro with 9th playing at 10 AM, JV at 11:15 AM and Varsity at 12:30 PM. Tickets for these games are only available online at
