The varsity boys basketball team played SoCal Academy out of California in the marquee matchup at FTTH on Sunday night. SoCal had requested a rematch with the Elks after last year's Elk win. We all know the saying, "Be careful what you wish for."

The Elks beat SoCal again on Sunday night rebounding form a close loss at home to SVSM on Friday night. The Elks came out on top 48-40 as the much bigger SoCal team tried to slow down the pace and keep the game in the half court on both ends to take advantage of their size but the Elks figured out a way.

The Elks trailed 11-13 after the 1st quarter and 19-27 at the half. The Elks were not shooting the ball well and were making uncharacteristic turnovers. Senior Gabe Cupps kept the Elks in the game in the first half scoring 10 of his 12 points in the first half.

The Elks came out in the 2nd half and absolutely locked down SoCal defensively the entire 2nd half as SoCal only scored 4 points in the 3rd quarter and the Elks cut the lead to 27-31 heading into the 4th quarter on a Baboucarr Njie basket at the buzzer. The Elks got on track offensively in the 4th quarter outscoring SoCal 21-9 to go on and win 48-40. Junior Johnathan Powell got hot in the 4th quarter to lead the Elks with 22 points. Powell hit some huge 3-point baskets in the 4th quarter.

The win now puts the Elks at 11-2 overall. The Elks are back in action at home on Friday January 20th vs. Miamisburg with the 9th Black playing at 5 pm, JV at 6:15 pm and Varsity at 7:30 pm. Tickets are only available online at
