The Varsity Boys Basketball team at Butler High School had an incredible start to their OHSAA Sectional Tournament campaign on Wednesday, February 15th, as they took on Fairborn in the opening round. The Elks put in a dominant performance, defeating Fairborn 66-24, and advancing to the second round of the tournament.

The game started off strong for the Elks, as they established a 19-6 lead over Fairborn in the first quarter. Senior guard Gabe Cupps was the star of the opening period, exploding for 12 points and setting the tone for his team's dominant display.

However, the Skyhawks fought back in the second quarter, and managed to bring the score to 12-20 in favor of the Elks. But from that point onwards, the Elks took control of the game, outscoring Fairborn 46-12 for the remainder of the match.

Junior Jonathan Powell led the way for the Elks with 18 points, while senior Gabe Cupps added 15 points and junior Baboucarr Njie chipped in with 10 points. Their impressive performances helped Butler secure a comfortable victory and move on to the next round of the tournament.

The win takes the Elks' overall record for the season to an impressive 20-3, and they will now face Belmont in the second round of the OHSAA Sectional Tournament on Wednesday, February 22nd, at 6:00 pm at Butler High School.
