The Elk's Para-Swimming team had a remarkable showing at the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) State Meet. The team’s senior, Carson Bruner, closed out his high school career with an impressive performance, dominating the Para 50-Freestyle and Para 100-Backstroke events for the third year in a row. His teammate, sophomore Gabi Schopperth, also made a splash, finishing in fifth place in the Para 50-Freestyle and fourth place in the Para 100-Backstroke.

Bruner’s success was not limited to his wins, however. He also set new school records in both the Para 50-Freestyle and Para 100-Backstroke events. Bruner’s new record of 26.44 in the Para 50-Freestyle broke his own previous record of 27.00 set just last year. In the Para 100-Backstroke, Bruner broke his own school record of 1:02.69 set at the district meet the previous week, finishing with a new record time of 1:02.60.

Schopperth also broke a school record at the state meet, finishing the Para 100-Backstroke with a time of 1:45.01, beating her previous record of 1:46.14 set just a week before at the district meet.

This year’s performance was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Centerville High School Para-Swimming team, and the incredible athletes that make up the team. Bruner and Schopperth have set the bar high for future para-swimmers at Centerville High School, showing that with perseverance and dedication, anything is possible.
