Girls Cross Country Kicks Off Their Season

The Elks Girls Cross Country Team showcased their competitive spirit and determination as they embarked on their season-opening journey at the OHSAA Preseason Invitational, held at Fortress Obetz. In a series of exhilarating races, the team demonstrated their prowess and commitment to the sport, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.

The day began with the varsity race, where the Elks girls displayed their mettle against a competitive field of 38 teams. The team's collective efforts led to a commendable 17th-place finish. Among the standout performers were Mia Fry, Ella Buckingham, Claire Drylie, Elena Von Handorf, and Meredith Drylie, who contributed to the team's scoring finishers. Their dedication and teamwork were evident as they raced alongside fierce competitors.

Continuing the day's momentum, the Junior Varsity (JV) XC team took to the course and secured an impressive 5th-place finish out of 22 teams. Led by Shayda Hart, the team's scorers included Ellie Brandt, MacKenzie Morrow, Louisa Martineau, and Lydia Miller. The JV team's performance underscored the depth of talent within the Elks' program and highlighted their potential for growth and success.

The last race of the day was the open 2-mile race. The girls finished a commendable 4th-place finish out of 8 teams. The team's scoring runners, including Lila Yankush, Mallory Jackson, Eleanor Gillman, Scout Smith, and Lakshmi Mailaram, showcased their tenacity and skill as they crossed the finish line. Multiple top 30 finishes in the race illustrated the team's competitive edge and commitment to excellence.

The Elks Girls Cross Country Team's journey is far from over. Their next challenge awaits at the Northmont Invite on Saturday, where they will once again lace up their shoes and take on the course at 9:00 AM. As they continue to chase their goals and strive for excellence, the support of their coaches, families, and fans will undoubtedly fuel their determination.
