With the varsity squad engaging in focused training, the Elks Boys Cross Country Team opted to put their top JV boys in the spotlight at the OHSAA Pre-State Meet. The team placed significant emphasis on pack running, a strategy that seeks to keep the team's top runners closely together throughout the race. The result was a tightly-knit group of athletes who showcased their synchronization and determination on the course.

The team's dedication to pack running was evident in the remarkable performance of their top five scorers, who finished within a mere 9 seconds of each other. Leading the pack was junior Ian O'Brien, who completed the race in 18 minutes and 11 seconds. Right behind him were senior Loris Manaresi, junior Braden Harness, junior Liam Sease, and junior Dallin Tyre, all of whom demonstrated their prowess and resilience on the course.

In addition to the strong showing in the top race, the Elks Boys Cross Country Team fielded ten runners in the JV race, showcasing their depth of talent. The JV squad secured an impressive 5th-place finish overall. Senior Austin Pees led the charge, finishing 19th overall with a time of 18:45. Following closely were juniors Daniel Coderre, Jordan Crouch, and Camden Lee, as well as senior Sam Jacob. The collective effort of these runners underlined the team's commitment to excellence across all levels.

The Elks Boys Cross Country Team's journey continues with a split-squad appearance at both West Milton and Northmont on Saturday, August 26th. As they prepare to take on new challenges, the lessons learned from the OHSAA Pre-State Meet will undoubtedly guide their approach and mindset.

With every race, practice, and opportunity, the Elks Boys Cross Country Team is growing stronger as a unit and as individual athletes. Their unwavering dedication, commitment to their teammates, and pursuit of excellence make them a force to be reckoned with in the competitive world of cross country running.
