In a thrilling Friday night showdown at Centerville Stadium, the Centerville Varsity Football team displayed their resilience and determination as they held off a spirited Miamisburg Viking team, ultimately securing a hard-fought 27-14 GWOC victory. It was a night filled with anticipation as the Vikings, who had been battling adversity in recent times, stepped onto the Elks' turf.

Coming into this game, the Elks were considered the favorites, but credit must be given to the Vikings, who turned this contest into a fiercely competitive battle. The game kicked off with the Elks stopping the Vikings on their opening drive, setting the tone for the evening. On their first possession, the Elks showed their offensive prowess, driving 57 yards down the field, capping it off with a 1-yard touchdown run by Braylon Newcomb, giving them an early 7-0 lead with 8:43 remaining in the first quarter.

However, the Vikings were not to be outdone. They capitalized on an Elk fumble at their own 18-yard line, with their quarterback rushing for an 11-yard touchdown, leveling the score at 7-7 with just 2:04 left in the first quarter. Early in the second quarter, the Vikings' defense once again capitalized on an Elk fumble, this time returning it for an 18-yard touchdown, giving them a surprising 14-7 lead with 6:44 left in the second quarter.

As the teams traded possessions, a pivotal moment occurred when a superb punt by Leland Gantz pinned the Vikings inside their own 1-yard line. The Elk defense capitalized on the field position, securing a safety and reducing the deficit to 14-9 with 5:04 left in the half. The Elks regained possession and, despite their earlier turnovers, managed to march 62 yards down the field. Braylon Newcomb's 2-yard touchdown run and a successful 2-point conversion pass from Newcomb to Jamar Montgomery gave the Elks a 17-14 lead heading into halftime.

During the third quarter the Elks took over at their own 6-yard line with 7:43 left and orchestrated an impressive 94-yard touchdown drive. Newcomb notched his third touchdown of the game with a 1-yard run, extending the Elks' lead to 24-14 with 4:12 left in the third quarter.

The Elks weren't done yet. With just eight seconds left in the third quarter, kicker Leland Gantz nailed a remarkable 50-yard field goal, pushing the lead to 27-14 heading into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Centerville defense, with Ross Coppock and Jacob Taylor each intercepting passes to seal the victory. The Elks' defense held strong, and when the final whistle blew, they emerged with a well-deserved 27-14 win. This victory brought the Elks to an impressive 3-1 overall record, including a 1-0 record in the GWOC.

Next up, the Centerville Elks will hit the road, traveling to Northmont for a showdown on Friday, September 15th, with a 7 pm kickoff. Fans can purchase tickets online at Northmont Athletics' website.

In a game filled with twists and turns, the Centerville Varsity Football team showcased their determination, overcoming adversity and securing a victory over the Miamisburg Vikings. As they continue their season, the Elks look to build on this success and maintain their winning momentum in the GWOC.
