The varsity girls soccer team traveled to Lakota East on Thursday night to take on the Anderson Raptors in the District Championship game. The two team played a highly competitive match that was greatly impacted by the wind. In each half of regulation the team with the wind behind their back controlled possession and was able to get some good scoring opportunities but the defense and goalies from each squad kept the game tied at 0-0 after regulation.

In the first overtime the Lady Elks had the wind but could not really muster any good scoring opportunities as the Raptor defense held them in check. So, we headed to a 2nd overtime and the Lady Elks were now at a huge disadvantage going against the wind. However, the girls dominated this overtime and began the session with great scoring opportunities and pressure on Anderson and then Ella Boettcher hit a brilliant shot that just got past the Raptor goalie to give the Lady Elks a 1-0 victory and the District Championship! The win moves the Lady Elks to 15-3-2 overall.

The Lady Elks will now advance to the OHSAA Regional Semi-Finals on Tuesday October 31st at 7:00 PM at Roger Glass Stadium on the campus of Chaminade Julienne against Seton High School. Tickets are available online at www.ohsaa.org/tickets for $9 (Students) and $12 (Adults). You can buy tickets at the gate for $15 cash.
