Girls Basketball Takes Down Wayne

In a thrilling match-up on Wednesday night, the Girls Varsity Basketball team hosted the Wayne Warriors and emerged victorious with a final score of 54-42. The Lady Elks displayed impressive teamwork and resilience, securing their fifth win of the season. Let's take a closer look at the exciting game that unfolded at Centerville High School.

The game started off with an intense first quarter, where the Lady Elks managed to grab a slim 13-12 lead. The players showcased their skills, both offensively and defensively, setting the stage for an exciting night of basketball.

As the game progressed, the Lady Elks continued to dominate, heading into halftime with a 26-19 lead over the Wayne Warriors. The team's cohesive performance and strategic plays contributed to their advantage on the scoreboard.

The second half brought a turn of events as the Wayne Warriors came out strong, flipping the score to take a 31-29 lead. However, the Lady Elks showcased their determination and resilience, fighting back to reclaim a 43-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The final quarter proved crucial for the Lady Elks as they fended off Wayne's attempts to narrow the gap. Leona Ciarlariello played a pivotal role, going 6 for 7 from the free-throw line and scoring 8 of her 12 points in the fourth quarter alone. This outstanding performance helped secure the victory, with the closest Wayne could get being 6 points.

Leona Ciarlariello and Caroline McDowell led the Lady Elks with 12 points each, showcasing their scoring prowess and contributing significantly to the team's success.

With this win, the Centerville Elk Girls Varsity Basketball team boasts a 5-2 record for the season, both overall and in the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC). The team's consistent performance is a testament to their hard work and dedication on the court.

Unfortunately, the 9th grade team suffered a loss against the Bellbrook JVB team with a score of 52-29. The JV team also faced a tough challenge, losing to Wayne with a score of 62-40.

The Lady Elks are gearing up for their next challenge, scheduled for Saturday at Columbus Bishop Hartley. The 9th-grade team will start the action at 10:30 AM, followed by the JV team at 12:00 PM, and the Varsity team at 1:30 PM. Tickets are available online at
