The varsity boys basketball team traveled to Akron Hoban, the defending D-I State Champion, on Saturday to continue try to rebound from their recent home GWOC loss. This would obviously be no easy task as the Knights are once again very talented and Hoban is a hard place to win. The Elks played very well and battled the Knights toe to toe all the way but came up short dropping the game 60-56 to the Knights.

At the end of the first quarter the Elks trailed 21 -15 after the first quarter but fought back to lead 35-31 at the half. The third quarter saw a very intense battle but the Elks only scored 2 points as they went cold from the floor and the defensive intensity picked up on both side and Hoban led 40-37 heading into the 4th quarter. Again, the play resembled that of a high level deep tournament game as each team played with great effort and intensity. The difference in the game was Hoban made shots and the Elks just could not make buckets. Hoban also made their free throws to seal the game and the Elks lost 60-56.

The Elks were led by Jonathan Powell with 21 points and Baboucarr Njie with 12 points. The team is now 5-3 overall and 5-1 in the GWOC. The JV team lost to Hoban 63-45. The Elks are back in action at home on Tuesday January 2nd vs. Wayne with the 9th Black team playing at 5 pm, JV at 6:15 pm and Varsity at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available online at
