It was an electrifying night at the Centerville High School gym as the Elk Varsity boys basketball team faced off against the formidable St. Ignatius Wildcats, one of the top teams in Ohio. The game unfolded as a true spectacle of skill, determination, and heart-stopping moments, leaving fans on the edge of their seats.

Right from the start, the Elks showed their mettle, jumping out quickly to take a 27-20 lead after the first quarter. The first half concluded with the Elks maintaining their lead at 39-34. The team's performance was marked by exceptional teamwork and a relentless spirit, showcasing their ability to go toe to toe with a powerhouse like St. Ignatius.

As the game progressed, the Elks continued to control the pace, heading into the fourth quarter with a narrow 54-53 lead. However, the Wildcats proved resilient, and with just 3 seconds left in regulation, they managed to free one of their best shooters for an uncontested 3-point shot, tying the game at 72-72 and forcing the epic showdown into overtime.

The overtimes were nothing short of extraordinary, with both teams displaying incredible basketball prowess. The gym echoed with cheers and gasps as the Elks and Wildcats battled fiercely. The final score stood at an astonishing 94-92 in favor of St. Ignatius after double overtime – a testament to the intensity and competitiveness of the game.

Despite the Elks' outstanding efforts, some challenges like shooting 65% from the free-throw line, costly turnovers, and missed lay-ups allowed the Wildcats to stay in contention. The game, however, left an indelible impression on everyone in attendance, emphasizing the high level of basketball skill on display.

Jonathan Powell led the Elks with an impressive 34 points, supported by Eli Greenberg with 28 points and Baboucarr Njie contributing 11 points. The team's overall record now stands at 8-4.

In the JV matchup, the Elks faced a tough challenge and lost 61-54 to St. Ignatius. The Varsity team is set for another thrilling matchup in the FTTH Event against Isidore Newman, LA, tonight at 8:15 pm.
