In a heart-pounding matchup at Trent Arena during the Flyin' To The Hoop Event, the Boys Varsity Basketball added another impressive win to their record. On Sunday night, the Elks faced a tough opponent, Isidore Newman from New Orleans, LA, in an overtime thriller, emerging victorious with a final score of 64-59.

The Elks wasted no time asserting their dominance, jumping out to an early lead and maintaining control throughout the first half. Despite facing a larger opponent in the Newman Greenies, the Elks held their ground, preventing Isidore from dominating the boards. The first half concluded with the Elks leading 32-31.

The second half unfolded as a back-and-forth battle, with the Elks trailing Newman 48-45 heading into the decisive fourth quarter. Undeterred, the Elks mounted a comeback, and with the score tied at 55-55 and less than a minute to play, they held the ball for the last shot. Although the attempt just missed, the Elks headed into overtime determined to secure the win.

Overtime proved to be just as intense, and with eight seconds left on the clock and the game tied at 59-59, Baboucarr Njie was fouled. Adding to the drama, a technical foul was called on a Newman player, awarding the Elks four crucial free throws. Njie sunk both of his shots, and Eli Greenberg made one of two, giving the Elks a 62-59 lead. Njie was fouled again during the inbound play, making both free throws, sealing the 64-59 victory for the Elks.

Leading the charge for the Elks were Jonathan Powell with an impressive 24 points, Jamar Montgomery contributing 11, and Eli Greenberg adding 11 points. The victory improved the Elks' season record to 9-4.

Fans can look forward to the next action-packed game on Saturday, January 20th, when the Elks face off against Springfield. The schedule includes the 9th Black team at 5 pm, JV at 6:15 pm, and Varsity at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available online at
