On a Tuesday night, the Boys Varsity Basketball team embarked on a challenging journey to face the red-hot Beavercreek Beavers. The Beavers, on a six-game GWOC winning streak since their early December loss to the Elks, entered the game with an impressive 12-2 overall record and a higher MaxPreps RPI ranking than the Elks. The stage was set at Beavercreek High School, where the gym was packed, and finding a parking spot near the venue was nearly impossible.

The game kicked off with the Elks taking an early lead, finishing the first quarter with a score of 18-9. However, the Beavers displayed resilience in the second quarter, narrowing the gap to 33-27 by halftime. Undeterred, the Elks extended their lead to 48-38 by the end of the third quarter. The Beavers, though pesky, continued to keep the game close in the fourth quarter. In the end, the Elks secured a hard-fought victory with a final score of 65-54.

Leading the scoring charge for the Elks were Jamar Montgomery with 17 points, Baboucarr Njie with 16 points, Jonathan Powell with 12 points, Eli Greenberg with 11 points, and Ethan Greenberg with 9 points. With this triumph, the Elks improved to an 11-4 overall record and an impressive 8-1 in the league, placing them alone atop the GWOC standings.

The strength of the Elks' schedule played a crucial role in their success, as they faced formidable opponents throughout the season. Despite the challenges, the battle-tested Elks pulled off the road win. It's worth noting that the current RPI ranking system may not fully account for the quality of opponents the Elks have encountered. However, this victory positions them favorably, and they are likely to claim the top spot in the MaxPreps RPI ranking for the Southwest District North division.

The JV team beat Beavercreek 51-44. The 9th Black squad beat Beavercreek 54-43.

Looking ahead, the Elks will return to their home court on Friday night to face Northmont. The action-packed evening will feature the 9th Gold team playing at 5 PM, JV at 6:15 PM, and Varsity at 7:30 PM. Tickets can be purchased online at
