The Boys Basketball team suffered a very uncharacteristic home league loss on Senior Night this past Tuesday. The Springboro Panthers came into town and walked away with a 53-49 win over the Elks.
The Elks jumped out on top 8-2 to begin the game and led 12-7 after the first period. However the Panthers outscored the Elks 18-6 in the second quarter to lead 25-18 at the half and the Elks could never regain the lead. The Panthers had their way on the offensive end routinely getting layups and open shots. On the other end the Elks turned it over, missed layups and struggled at the free throw line. All credit should go to Springboro who just cam in and took it to the Elks. Leading the Elks were Jonathan Powell with 23 points and Baboucarr Njie with 13 points. The team is now 13-7 overall and 10-3 in the GWOC.
With the loss the varsity team has a 1 game lead over Beavercreek and must win tonight at Wayne in order to lock up a league championship. The players and coaches are working hard to try and figure this thing out and hopefully secure the Championship. The 9th Black squad beat Springboro 60-44 and the JV team beat Springboro 48-42.
The 9th Gold plays at 5 pm tonight at Wayne followed by the JV at 6:15 pm and the Varsity at 7:45 pm. Tickets are on sale online at
