Boys Wrestling Shines at Districts

In an electrifying display of skill and determination, the Centerville High School boys wrestling team left its mark at the OHSAA District Tournament held at Trent Arena. Ten outstanding athletes, representing the Elks with pride, showcased their prowess on the wrestling mat.

Leading the charge was Arslan Bekirov, who demonstrated exceptional resilience and skill. Bekirov battled his way to the semifinals, facing tough opponents with unwavering determination. Although he suffered his first loss in the semis, he rebounded triumphantly in the blood round, securing his ticket to the OHSAA State Tournament next week.

Aydan George, another standout wrestler, dominated the competition by winning his first three matches. George's stellar performance earned him a well-deserved 2nd place at the District Tournament, securing his place at the State Tournament next week.

John Moyer exhibited tenacity and skill by winning his first two matches. Despite a setback in the third round, Moyer showcased his resilience in the blood round, securing a spot in the OHSAA State Tournament. Moyer finished an impressive 3rd at Districts.

The tournament also saw notable performances from Mitch Winfield, Levi Howard, and Ethan Waller. Winfield, after winning his first match, faced challenges in the subsequent rounds, ultimately being knocked out in the third round of the consolation bracket. Howard, who lost his first match, fought back but was eventually eliminated in the third round of the consolation bracket. Waller, who won his first match, battled hard but faced a similar fate, being knocked out in the third round of the consolation bracket.

Skakhin Iskandar unfortunately had to withdraw from the tournament after winning his first match, while Azim Kazimov, despite winning a consolation match, was eliminated in the second round of the consolation bracket.

Traye Herrington and Evan Thompson displayed determination throughout the tournament, although they faced tough opposition. Herrington was eliminated in the second round of the consolation bracket, and Thompson bowed out in the third round.

The Centerville High School Elks wrestling team has undoubtedly left a lasting impression with their performances at the OHSAA District Tournament. As the team looks forward to the OHSAA State Tournament next week, the entire school community rallies behind them, proud of their achievements and excited for the challenges that lie ahead. Go Elks!
