Boys Volleyball Sweeps Fairmont

In a gripping showdown on Thursday night, the Boys Varsity Volleyball team showcased their resilience and determination, coming from behind to defeat the Fairmont Firebirds in a thrilling five-set match at home.

The game began with an intense first set, with the Elks facing a tough challenge from the Firebirds and ultimately falling short with a score of 25-20. However, the Elks quickly regrouped and fought back fiercely in the second set, securing a narrow victory with a score of 26-24 to even the score.

The third set saw the Firebirds asserting their dominance, jumping out to a significant lead and ultimately clinching the set with a score of 25-15, putting the Elks in a challenging position. Undeterred, the Elks responded with a remarkable performance in the fourth set, completely turning the tables on the Firebirds with a commanding score of 25-14 to tie the match at 2-2.

With the tension mounting and the outcome hanging in the balance, both teams entered the decisive fifth set with determination. The Firebirds initially gained an early lead, but the Elks showed incredible resilience and fought back relentlessly. In a nail-biting finish, the Elks managed to edge past the Firebirds with a final score of 15-13 in the fifth set, securing a hard-earned victory and winning the match 3-2.

Key players who contributed significantly to the Elks' triumph included Grant Hapner, who delivered an impressive performance with 17 kills, along with Jackson Stevenson contributing 16 kills, Jacob Massey with 9 kills, and Tyler Stephen's crucial 39 assists.

With this exciting win, the Centerville Elk Varsity Volleyball team's record now stands at 2-1 for the season. The Junior Varsity team also achieved success, beating the Firebirds with a solid 2-0 victory.

The Elks will continue their competitive journey on March 28th with a match against Wayne. The Junior Varsity game is set to start at 5:30 pm, followed by the Varsity game at 6:45 pm. Tickets for the games can be conveniently purchased online at
