The Lady Elks Varsity Softball team had an exciting victory on Thursday night. They traveled to Lakota East and beat Western Brown 12-3 in the SWDAB D-I District Championship. With this win, the Lady Elks advance to the Regionals where they will play Mason on Wednesday, May 22nd. The time and location of the game will be announced later.

Both teams started the game strong, loading the bases in the first inning, but no runs were scored. The second inning also ended with no runs. Finally, in the bottom of the third inning, the Lady Elks scored their first run, taking a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning. In the fourth inning, Hayley Arnold and Ardyn Hopf each singled, followed by a triple from Natalie Carr and a double from Riley Bacon, leading to three runs for the Lady Elks. This made the score 4-0. Western Brown fought back in the fifth inning, scoring three runs to make it 4-3. However, Ardyn Hopf made a fantastic throw from center field to home plate, stopping another run and keeping the Lady Elks in the lead. The Lady Elks responded strongly in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ardyn Hopf hit a triple with the bases loaded, scoring three runs. She then stole third base and scored on a single by Riley Bacon, bringing the score to 8-3. In the sixth inning, Ardyn Hopf hit a bases-loaded double that nearly went over the fence, adding three more runs to the score. This put the Lady Elks ahead 12-3 going into the seventh inning. Hayley Arnold and the defense then successfully held off Western Brown to close out the game.

The Lady Elks now have an impressive record of 24-4. They will face Mason in the Regional Semi-Finals on Wednesday, May 22nd at 5 PM, with the location to be announced.
