The Centerville Girls Varsity Gold Golf team finished runner-up at the SWDAB District Championship on Tuesday, missing the top spot by just one stroke. This strong finish qualifies the Lady Elks for the OHSAA State Championship, which will be held next week at the NCR Country Club.
The Lady Elks led the tournament for most of the day and had a big lead with about five holes left to play. But as anyone who plays golf knows, the game can change quickly. Anderson High School managed to close the gap and beat the Lady Elks by a single stroke. Despite the tough ending, it was a great achievement for the team, especially after not qualifying for state last year.
Centerville’s top scorer was senior Brigid Nickell, who shot a 77. She was followed by juniors Ava Snow (82) and Bekah Hartley (83), along with seniors Nithya Nunna (85) and Ava Bressler (97).
The Lady Elks will compete in the OHSAA State Championship on Monday, October 14th, and Tuesday, October 15th, with tee times starting at 9 AM each day. Tickets are available online at and cost $15 for adults and $10 for students.
Good luck, Lady Elks!
