The Girls Varsity Basketball team faced a tough opponent Saturday night, falling to Fairmont 68-53 at home. Fairmont started the game strong, using hot shooting and intense defensive pressure to take an early 11-0 lead. The Lady Elks struggled against Fairmont’s aggressive play, and the deficit grew to 20 points at times.
Despite the tough start, the Lady Elks showed resilience. In the second half, they battled back, cutting the lead to just nine points midway through the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, the effort to close the gap left them without enough energy to complete the comeback against a very talented Fairmont squad.
Amelia Davis and Caroline McDowell led the Lady Elks with 13 points each. The loss puts Centerville’s record at 3-2 overall and 1-2 in Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) play.
Centerville’s Junior Varsity and 9th Grade teams also faced defeats against Fairmont. The JV team lost 52-36, while the 9th Grade team fell 55-24.
The Lady Elks will look to bounce back on Wednesday, December 18th, when they travel to face Wayne. The JV game starts at 6:00 p.m., followed by Varsity at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at or with cash at the door ($9 for adults, $8 for students and seniors).
