Centerville City Schools has named John Puckett as head football coach at Centerville High School.
Puckett has coached football since 1999, including 11 years as Centerville’s varsity defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach and three years as head football coach at Vandalia-Butler High School. Puckett also works as an intervention specialist at CHS, teaching students with special needs.
“Since I joined Centerville in 2010, becoming the head football coach has been my dream,” Puckett said. “We have an ideal combination of outstanding administration, strong community and parental support, and amazing kids. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to uphold the Elks’ tradition of toughness!”
Puckett is replacing Brent Ullery, who resigned in December after eight years as Centerville’s head football coach.
“We are thrilled to announce that John Puckett will be promoted to head football coach for the Elks!” said Athletic Director Brandon Hon, adding that after an extensive search, Puckett stood out amongst a strong candidate pool as the right fit to lead CHS football to the next level after a historic state semifinal appearance.
“John has been a cornerstone of our program for years, alongside departing Head Coach Brent Ullery, serving as defensive coordinator and playing an instrumental role in the development of our young men,” Hon said. “His commitment to excellence and passion for our students, both on the field and in the classroom, has established him as a well-respected leader within our community. We are excited to see our Elks take the field under his guidance in just a few months!”
Centerville High School is part of Centerville City Schools, which serve more than 8,000 students in Centerville and Washington Township in southwest Ohio, offering a variety of educational programs to a diverse student population.
