Centerville Girls Soccer Clinches GWOC Title Behind Youthful Spark and Senior Leadership

The Centerville girls soccer team officially clinched the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) Championship last night with a decisive 2–0 victory over rival Springboro, sealing what has been the most complete and balanced season yet under head coach Bradley Schluter.

From the opening whistle, the Elks displayed a blend of maturity and youthful energy that has defined their 2025 campaign. The starting lineup featured four seniors, three juniors, two sophomores, and two freshmen—a testament to the team’s balance between seasoned experience and the next generation of rising talent.

Both goals came from underclassmen, with sophomore Emma Maciejewski striking first off a crisp assist from freshman Addison Hogendoorn, and sophomore Olivia Loomis adding the insurance goal later—again set up beautifully by Hogendoorn.
The scoring tandem of young players showcased the program’s bright future, while the seniors’ leadership anchored the team’s poise and defensive organization throughout.

Coming off the bench, three sophomores and two freshmen provided critical depth, maintaining Centerville’s tempo and pressure from start to finish. In all, 13 of the Elks’ 22 healthy players are freshmen or sophomores—underscoring the program’s youth movement—but it’s the five seniors (four active) who have set the tone all season.

“This senior class has been everything you could ask for and more,” said Coach Schluter. “They do things the right way every day—on the field, in the locker room, and in how they carry themselves. Their leadership has made this group special.”

Now, with a week off to recover and prepare, Centerville turns its attention to the postseason. The Elks will host the first round of the OHSAA District Tournament on Monday, October 20, facing Wayne High School at Centerville Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on the Elks Sports Network (ESN), giving fans a chance to see the reigning GWOC champions begin their playoff push on their home turf.

The road ahead promises to be exciting—but for now, the Elks can celebrate a well-earned conference crown, built on the perfect mix of experience, leadership, and youthful firepower.
